Some products can't go to some states. StopShip blocks them at checkout, before payment, and tells the buyer exactly why.

Butterfly Knife can't be shipped to California. Remove it or use a different address.
Butterfly KnifeKnives
$34.00You can stop shipping to a state, but not just for the knives. So a buyer in California orders one, you find out when you pack it, and you're left with a refund, a chargeback risk or a package that shouldn't have shipped.
StopShip checks the cart against the shipping address while the buyer is still at checkout. Everything else in your store keeps selling everywhere.
Choose products, collections or tags from your store, or start from a category template.
Search states and territories, and paste any ZIP codes. The rule reads back as a sentence as you build it.
It applies to your checkout right away. There's nothing to add to your theme for blocking to work.
“Don't ship the Knives collection to California and New York.” Target products, collections or tags, and choose “don't ship to” or “only ship to”.
All 50 states, DC, US territories and military addresses. Paste ZIP codes, ranges or 3-digit prefixes; up to 5,400 individual ZIPs across your rules.
The error sits next to the address and names the product, so buyers can remove it or change the address. Write it in English and, if you want, in Spanish.
Orders can still appear from drafts or other channels. Any that break a rule get the tag “StopShip: review”, so you catch them before shipping. Growth and Pro.
A theme block tells buyers where a product doesn't ship, before they reach checkout. No code. Growth and Pro.
Starting points for knives, vape, CBD, plants and seeds, aerosols and kratom, each with its date, confidence and public sources. You review them. Growth and Pro.
It doesn't give legal advice, decide what you can sell or verify anyone's age. It enforces the rules you set. Laws change, so templates show their date and sources, and you confirm you've reviewed them before they go live.

No. It works on every Shopify plan, and you don't have to edit any theme code.
No. You decide, and you're responsible for what you sell and where. Templates are a starting point with public sources, not legal advice. Check them with your advisor.
No. StopShip only looks at where the order is going.
From the online checkout, the rule blocks payment. Staff can still create an order from a draft by choosing “Ignore and create order”, and other channels may skip checkout. On Growth and Pro, those orders get the tag “StopShip: review”.
Protection never turns off for billing. If you move to a smaller plan, the rules that fit keep blocking and the rest stay paused and visible until you upgrade.
It reads the shipping state and ZIP to check your rules and doesn't store them. It keeps only totals per state. The details are in the privacy policy.
